Protocol versions

• New network protocol scheme, with a high bit (bit 30) set for snapshots. The protocol version will increase by 1 for each snapshot, but full releases may keep the same protocol version as the previous full release in cases where the network protocols are compatible.

Multiplayer

• When the server and client version are incompatible, a message reading 'Incompatible version!' in red will be displayed, instead of 'Client out of date!' or 'Server out of date!' in dark red.
• When multiplayer is disabled, the message displayed will now read, 'Multiplayer is disabled. Please check your Microsoft account settings.' instead of 'Multiplayer is disabled. Please check your launcher settings.'

Why isn't f.lux available in the Apple App Store?

We would love to make f.lux available for all iOS devices. To make f.lux work on iOS, we've had to go outside the bounds of what apps are normally allowed to do. Currently, iOS does not allow developers to access the Private APIs we need to make f.lux work on iOS.

To install f.lux on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you'll need to jailbreak your device. Jailbreaking automatically installs Cydia, which is an alternative way to install software on your iOS device, like the App Store, but for software other than Apps.

If my device is already jailbroken, how do I install f.lux?

1. Open Cydia on your device:

3. Tap Install:
   
4. Adjust f.lux preferences using Settings, f.lux
5. If necessary, wait for sunset.

Known bug: on older devices with non-Retina displays, the transition from daylight to f.lux-light causes the screen to temporarily flicker. To prevent this bug, turn off the long-transition mode in f.lux preferences.

To adjust the f.lux preferences, open your device's Settings app, and click f.lux.

How do I jailbreak my device and get Cydia?

This part is a bit like the wild west: it's at your own risk. We created f.lux for iOS, but we didn't create the software used to do a jailbreak, so we aren't able to support you if something goes wrong in the jailbreaking process.

Before you jailbreak a device, make sure you:

1. Have a current backup in iTunes
2. Know how to restore your device (using iTunes)
3. Use the name of your wireless carrier as well as your iOS version when searching for resources online
4. Avoid updating your device with iTunes after the jailbreak, unless you're prepared to jailbreak again
5. Remember that what you're reading right now might already be outdated!

The way to jailbreak your device depends on the version of iOS that your device is running. To find out your device's iOS version number, open your Settings app on the device, tap General, tap About, and look at Version.

The jailbreaking process preserves the existing data on your device and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

First, update your device (using iTunes) to 5.1.1. Some older devices may not be able to update.

Versions 4.1 through 4.2.1 on most devices

Download redsn0w 0.9.6rc19 for Mac or Windows. Plug your device into your computer and let iTunes do a sync/backup. When you open redsn0w, it will ask you for the 'IPSW file' for your device, which means a copy of Apple's firmware for your current version; you can download a copy of this file by finding the correct link at The iPhone Wiki's firmware list. Follow the rest of redsn0w's instructions, and you'll have a jailbroken device with Cydia installed.

Tethered jailbreak

iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad 1 on versions 4.2.9, 4.2.10, 4.3.4, and 4.3.5, and 5.0

On these particular versions, there is only a 'tethered jailbreak' available, which means that every time your device reboots (such as after running out of battery), the device will appear to get 'stuck' while booting up, and you will need to plug the device into your computer and run your jailbreaking tool again to help the device boot up successfully.

If plugging in every time you reboot is OK with you, continue with these jailbreaking instructions.

First plug your device into your computer and let iTunes do a sync/backup, and then download redsn0w 0.9.8b8 for Mac or Windows. For iOS versions 4.2.9, 4.2.10, 4.3.4, 4.3.5, and 5.0, click 'Jailbreak' and follow the instructions, and you'll have a jailbroken device with Cydia installed. Follow the rest of redsn0w's instructions, and you'll have a jailbroken device with Cydia installed.

To boot tethered on iOS versions 4.2.9, 4.2.10, 4.3.4, 4.3.5, and 5.0: plug your device into your computer, open redsn0w , click 'Extras', and click 'Just boot'.
